Duwe, Mary Kay
As a contemporary impressionist painter, Mary Kay Duwe attempts to depict the beauty and interest in the landscape of this area. Her paintings in oil are an expression or interpretation of nature, not a duplication of it. After attending the University of Kansas for two years, Mary Kay attended the University of California at Berkeley, where she received her bachelor’s degree. Later, she attended Johnson County Community College, where she studied drawing and painting under Jean Howard. She also studied landscape painting under former University of Kansas art professor Robert Sudlow. Plein air painting has taught her that painting on location is always a challenge, especially when dealing with the elements of weather and changing light. Mary Kay has exhibited in several galleries in the Kansas City area and has been an exhibiting artist in the Plaza Art Fair and Westport Art Fair.
