Jim Clements oil paintings fit into the western genre style of art. His rich deep color palette and masterful use of light combine to bring sensitive and provocative paintings to life. A sense of nostalgia is invoked in both his beautiful figurative work and his intriguing 'Out West' series.
Born and raised in Kansas, Jim has been painting professionally for the past 12 years and also teaches painting workshops throughout Kansas and the Western United States. His inspiration comes from the land and its people. He explains it this way: “To me, painting represents ultimate freedom - so it’s just natural that the wide open spaces, rich history and independent people of Kansas and the American West translate so well to canvas. My desire is to honor that spirit in each painting I do. Whether I'm helping to work cattle in Kansas, or sitting around the campfire with cowboys in Texas, the inspiration from these settings is boundless.”
Jim’s work has won many awards over the years and has been featured in numerous publications including USA Today, Florida Today, Art Calendar magazine, Derby Now magazine, Eldorado Times, Dodge City Globe, and Topeka Capital-Journal.
In 2010, the National Day of the Cowboy Organization based in Fort Worth, Texas, selected Jim’s painting titled “Simple Things” as the image for its prestigious Cowboy Keeper Award, given annually to individuals and organizations that have made a substantial contribution to the preservation of the West. In the past several years, his work also has been selected for exhibition in many national shows including: the National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration; Lubbock, TX; the 11th Annual Stampede Western Invitational Art Exhibit, Greeley, CO.; the 26th Annual American Plains Artists Juried Exhibit, Lincoln, NE; Kansas Academy of Oil Painters; and the National Small Oil Painting Exhibition 2010, Wichita, KS; American Royal Western Art Show, Kansas City, MO; Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery, Lindsborg, Kansas; and Spirit of The West Festival, Sioux Falls, SD.
